What to pack when travelling on business

Destination, duration, type of work performed, number of meetings – all these factors must be carefully considered when choosing what to pack for a business trip. There are, however, some general rules that everyone who is about to leave for business reasons can follow. Let’s see which ones.

Travelling light

Unless you decide to extend your stay once your professional commitments are over, a business trip is limited in time. Therefore, it is better to travel light, so that only hand luggage is needed. Business trips have a tight schedule. Long waits at baggage claim or, even worse, the loss of your suitcase, are inconveniences to be avoided.

Documents not to be forgotten

  • Passport or identity document valid for travel abroad.
  • Visa, in case the country you are travelling to requires it.
  • Flight and hotel reservations;
  • Business cards;
  • Presentations and work documents always in digital format. A hard copy may be handy for hand reviews during the trip.

Essential accessories

  • Smartphones and company computers/tablets with respective chargers;
  • USB stick or hard-disk;
  • Universal adapter;
  • Multi-socket plug;

Don’t forget to pack useful accessories for your leisure time: a book, a travel guide of the country you are travelling to, and a camera, if you are an enthusiast and are not satisfied with your smartphone camera.

Clothing

The advice, in order to save space in your suitcase, is to opt for jacket and skirt suits or trousers in easily combinable and interchangeable colours and styles. To save space in your suitcase, it is best to opt for outfits in easily combinable and interchangeable colours and styles. This way you will have more outfits at your disposal without exaggerating with the number of items to stuff into your suitcase. Also make sure you have suitable changes for the evening, because business meetings will most likely end with aperitifs or dinners that are not necessarily elegant, but still formal.

Foreign currency

If you are entering or leaving the Eurozone, you may find it useful to exchange money before you leave. Forexchange’s online booking services allow you to purchase foreign currency without commission costs or agency fees. The booking must be made at least 48 hours in advance and the currency can be paid and collected directly on the day of departure.
