Description

Start your day in the best way possible: we’ll pick you up at your hotel (if accessible and centrally located) to begin your visit to two of the world’s most important religious buildings: the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

The Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano is the oldest of Rome’s four main basilicas and houses the Scala Sancta (Holy Stairs), one of the city’s most important pilgrimage sites. From there, we will head to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, which houses an extraordinary collection of historical and religious artifacts. You will admire the fifth-century mosaics and the amazing Crypt of the Nativity.

Next, along the historic Appian Way, accompanied by our guide, we will pass by the Church of “Domine quo vadis” before arriving at the ancient underground Roman Catacombs: together we will explore these extraordinary underground cemeteries, some of which dating back to the 2nd century. You will admire extraordinary historical works of art and discover how these underground passages open a window into the early days of Christianity.
